Blog News for the Week of August 28, 2016

As promised and discussed this week in class, I have created a CLASS PAGE on my blog. Nearly EVERYTHING we write, listen, discuss, assess in class will be all digital, SO I will update our class page with digital copies of assignments, exercises, etc. Please get in the habit of checking regularly!
We have MUCH GROUND to cover in Theory, on top of our rigorous PA schedule. I am excited for the problems you will learn to solve....

Week of August 22, 2016

Ladies and Gentlemen:

On the right side of this blog, under the section "Sign-Up for Stuff", you may submit a request for a copy of physical sheet music. If you are looking for a title and need the sheet music, click on the link and SUBMIT your request. If it is available, I will try to have the music ready for pick-up within 72 hours. I am providing this as a courtesy to CCCEPA students - I love you, but please don't make me crazy.

A note about the songs in my online song catalog for class presentations....

Ladies and Gentleman:
Some of the songs that appear in the song catalog are, for the most part, already shortened to a 16-bar cut. Therefore, you should learn the cut that appears. If you are unsure about song length or if your song selection looks like it has more than sixteen measures, please don't hesitate to see me to clarify. Thanks!

Access to the Music Catalog and Notes

Greetings, STUDENTS!

To view the catalog for music and the notes you receive in class, you will need to request access to the Google Drive. When you request access, I can easily approve you. I have set up the catalog so that it can be viewed and shared with Pebblebrook students and not the ENTIRE population of the world. Let me know if you run into any problems with downloading or printing, etc.

CCCEPA Class of 2017 - Looking Ahead to the College Auditions during Fall 2016/Spring 2017

Thank you for visiting my blog. I wanted to use it as a resource to help you, at least, start organizing, planning, thinking about college auditions - more specifically, getting your song portfolio together for Musical Theatre degree programs. Hopefully, we can help you find suitable material with which you feel comfortable and connected. And, preparing your portfolio early, but steadily, will help reduce your stress around audition season J

Before we start, here are the rules….

  • Start early.
  • Solidify your list of prospective schools and categorize them according to REACH, FIT and/or SAFETY
  • Check each school’s website regularly for important dates – Application Deadlines, Interview Dates, Audition Requirements, Audition Deadlines, etc.
  • Create a grid/spreadsheet/checklist for each school you are previewing. That way, you can have all the information at your fingertips, all in one location.
  • Meet FREQUENTLY with your PHS school counselors for institutions that match your academic profile.
  • Compile a list of songs that you’d like to include in your musical theatre portfolio. Don’t worry if the songs are labeled “overdone”, etc. We are looking for material that shows your personality and demonstrates your skills favorably.
  • Be responsible for your portfolio and the material that goes into it. I am happy to help you shape things, BUT WILL NOT do it ALL for you. This is YOUR party and future – take pride in it.
  • Get rest and take care of your health.

  • Procrastinate. Once the Fall 2016 semester starts, you should be polishing and tightening your audition material, NOT picking it.
  • Procrastinate.
